been running this set up in boston MA with great results at sea level.
I went to lambretta jamboree last week in Colorado springs and trucked the Avanti with me.
met with the local lambreta scooter club who told me : 'big carbs don't do well up here ..' well up here turns out to be 6500ft above sea level and it turns out that they were exactly right !
the sea level set up felt like I had a hole on my engine and the carb was full of soup !
after 2 days of messing around with jetting I finally got to a pretty good set up :
6en11 58 needle 1st clip(yep! its a lean one )
280 main
15 pilot
I was able to take on some really good roads - straight ,hilly roads with some long windy bits ,tight s-curves ..with no effort .made some good mountain climbs too up to about 7500ft above sea level. the Avanti pulls really strong up inclines , could do a good deal of it in 3rd gear ,but the tough ones had to take a 2nd gear climb. no strain from the engine at all . did a few plug chops on the straight runs ,nice and fast , and my spark plug was very happy

Avanti ran nice and cool all the time i was there .
air is pretty thin up there for us flat landers ! had a hard time adjusting myself let alone the scoot !
so we have a go at the pikes peak mountain run ,its a 14 mile climb up a mountain that starts off at 6500/7000 ft a.s.l and ends up at 14000ft a.s.l!
so I get a really good start up ,Avanti pulling strong , no strain , im in 3rd while I hear other scoots dropping down to 2nd ..going up and up and im thinking 'this is the balls..' I climb to about 7500ft and then CLUNK......my rear hub locks up , I come to a skiddy dead stop. "WTF.did I seize ?' nope ..engine still running .,,I can still rev it. i rock the scoot back and forth , maybe clutch sticking (?) nothing still locked up .so I kill engine and try to push scoot to the side of the trail but i end up just dragging the rear wheel along and by this time im all out if air ..im a sweaty knackered mess panting for breath like im drowning !! luckily the local scoot guys followed in a truck and helped me out . couldn't unlock the hub at that time ..so they trailered me to the top anyway ...which was pretty damn amazing . check out Sebastian loebs drive up this mountain in a tricked out rally car on you tube ; he does it in about 8 mins!
so getting down was harder than going up ..one scooters front disc brake got so hot that the plastic grill covers actually melted ..seriously . a lot of scooters brakes got very hot on the way down . even though i wasn't able to make it up to the top because of the hub issue i am confident that the Avanti would have eaten that mountain road for breakfast ! actually there isn't much it cant handle, it likes to climb hills its pretty damn nippy on the highways and i love to run around the city on it ...
So afer a 36 hour hike back to Boston i check out the hub .inside is full of brake dust ,dry and crusty grease around the break pivots and all ive got left is about 2.5/3mm of shoe left !also the inside hub break track is nicely scored up . i notice also that the rear brake cable has been rubbing against the wall of the rear tire and has stripped off the plastic coating leaving bare metal cable

Inside the Teflon lining has melted possibly sticking the cable inside and the break always on (?)
i cant say for sure whats going on except that after a good clean in there and a new set of brakes and hub and a new cable its ok ;
meantime i kept the 6en11-58 needle but dropped down to the 3rd clip .still use the 15 pilot but only went to a 285 main jet. so far its been solid . plug lookin happy as usual !!
