Why isn't it possible on a varitronic?
good question; why not?
wire and magnets make current; rectifier makes it dc; inbuilt regulator limits the voltage; so why cant it be done with a variatronic,

i looked at mine
Image
Varitronic Electronic Ignition by Barry P Smyth, on Flickr
and couldnt work out a way to make it a dc stator not a ac stator going through a dc convertor as it is as std.
i wanted to make a dc stator that worked exceptionally at all over the rev range , that is the reason for my dc rewound stator plate thread
http://scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic ... it=rewound

if you can convert a variotronic to work with a dc regulator like the wassel/podtronic please add it this post

Haven't held one in my hands, but after looking at a few "google images", it looks a pretty straight forward conversion once you get through the protective covering on the connections.

It would be ineresting to see how it performed at low revs and where it started to charge battery with all the lights on I must admit

It would make for one VERY expensive conversion though :shocking:

Looking at going down the DC route without the battery can anyone tell me a good supplier and what type of wassell regulator i need for this please :D
