I,ve just spoken to Will (the owner of the PEP parts engine) and hes bringing it here in the next couple of days so we will fit the motor and see what it does on our dyno.. :D

Talking of old posts - did you ever post the results of the performance differences when using the Lambretta LPC crank you cut a while back Sean ?

I never got round to setting the motor up due to chasing non existent work etc (self employed plumber,) but I really do hope it goes well for Will.

well after some initial probs we finally dyno,d it yesterday ...
this was using a delly 30mm VHSH carb and a malossi exhaust...a long range fuel tank and a vacuum pump supplied the juice.

the results on our dyno were 20.44 BHP and 13.11 ft/lbs of torque at 8500 revs..,this however could possibly be improved ever so slightly to say 21 bhp max cos we left it on the safe rich side for running in ...however its pretty unlikely that the rather poor torque figure would get to 14 .
as regards the initial probs etc ..well the first two kicks on the kickstart lever stripped the splines ...so another was fitted and this did the same ...and the next and the next ...so thats my supply of vespa kickstart levers exhausted,...we then had no choice but to bump it off in order to start it and dyno it ....not sure exactly whats causing this ..maybe the high compression and or the fact that the quadrant is fouling on something internally ...
the other thing is that the gearchanges are so stiff that two hands are required..now i did set up the cables onto the selector box OFF the engine and it was as slick as a slippery thing so that eliminates any possible probs with cables /handlebars etc ...so again i can only put that down to internal issues as was confirmed somewhat when we noticed
that the rear axle had considerable lateral (in and out) motion ...in between 1 and 2 mill,so much so that in fact it would never ever pass an MOT in that condition.
