Sadly, because it is being used daily I've not actually messed around with it as much as I'd have like to (trying out various configurations). Thankfully, it's doing exactly what it says on the tin so leaving it alone is probably doing me a favour ;)

coaster wrote:Well, got past the 200 mile mark this afternoon so pushed it up to 50-55mph and my god what a difference. I thought it was torquey at 45 but 50-55 is where the power starts to kick in with my 4.7:1 JL3 set up. After about 20 miles on B roads going up to 55 mph for prolonged spells my clutch started showing signs of distress, I always knew that my 4 plate setup would need upgrading

Update: I spent a few hours last night installing a 5 plate clutch, I used advice from Diablo on another clutch related thread and mixed and matched plates and steels until I had between 1mm and 1.5mm clearance between the top plate and the friction disc. Just took it out for a 10 mile circuit and couldn't get it to slip at all, accelerated up to 67 in top going up long hill (only for a few seconds Ron ;) ) and it was fine...cheers Al 8-)

That's good news Colin. Did the clutch lever need much more effort to operate it, I think you said you were using MB uprated springs?

Hi Adam, no, the clutch is very light and feels exactly the same as it did before with the Taffspeed springs in it. I do have an MB Yam type dogleg lever though which helps. It could do with a little more 'stroke' (travel) as it drags slightly (I could live with it though) so I might use Mark's idea of cutting 10mm out of the clutch arm.

The selection of plates I ended up with was 4 x Camlam thin Surflex plates (2.5mm) plus one standard plate (3.5mm), 4 x 1mm steels and one standard steel (1.5mm) with a thick (3.5mm) top plate. All other parts are standard Indian.

have to say how much less vibration the avanti has, i was driving without gloves wot with the weather being so nice normally youd have white finger and buzzed hands..on a lesser note if it gets out its preffered rev range you find yourself knocking down a couple of cogs (li150 46 16) but all in all a fast tourer.

p.s sorry for the veshpers :ninja:
