Sounds like a similar problem foremanbob had recently turned out to be the stator

So do I, it needed a right angle bend to get it to enter the carb and is close to the bottom of the tool box. Suspension movement makes it contact the bottom of the toolbox and over time (Davos and back) it worked the choke retaining screw loose resulting in the choke sticking partially on.

Rob, you haven't mentioned whether it's piston ported or reed valve. Only saying 'cus it could be reeds loose or worn. Had a mate had this and it would start but not rev and a lot of spitback out of carb. If it's not reed valved then tell me to feck off

Stator change, petrol change and then engine inspection will be the order of the day today.

Changed the stator, changed the petrol. Wants to start, but nothing.

Read over the posts Bilko and it seems you have changed all electrical and the main fuel checks. Is the plug wet? Anyone handy to switch over carbs? Frustrating but keep going. Hopefully someone can give more advice.

First thing to see. Took the exhaust off and a load of oily petrol came out.

Would that have been carb trouble flooding the engine?
