I'm using a TV2 box, I've been told it might not be the best with a clubby though...time will tell.

"I thought everybody was going to be using TV200 boxes (or equivalent ratios) isn't that about 4.07 [GT is 4.4] forth gear allowing you to cruise at 75mph at low revs", my experience suggests that gearing will be governed by choice of pipe, which is the same for every other kit (and standard motor) too. In the same way that I've run the same TS1225 with gearing ranging from 5.7 to 4.7 (no change other than pipe), the Avanti's gearing need will reflect your pipe selection and the info that Ron sends out does contain a section of mating the 2 elements.
That said, I'm expecting my Avanti to pull 4.8 like a peppy racer (always on the boil) as the 4.6 delivery is ideal for long straight fast roads, rather than giving it a handful on small A roads or B roads. A change of pipe to one of the grunty expansions would no doubt cruise well on 4.4. and be peppy on the 4.6 that I've got fitted now but a quick change of sprockets will be a better test for my configuration than a change of pipe. What is apparent is that the Avanti will pull a higher 4th ratio at much lower revs than most other kits, making it far easier to stay in 4th for cruising. Other kits may pull the same 4th ratio but will be doing much higher revs to do so.
I really like my kit as it is but I always like to fine tune a motor until I have it ideally suited to my riding style.

No:3 was run in just before the gritters started and has been in hibernation since with winter duty taken over by a rusty GT.Still had'nt fianalised the jetting when put away.

Here's a quick update from the States...I don't know what # my Avanti Kit is, but received it in November. I've got the Avanti mounted on an SX200 with JL3 and a Keihin PWK 28 with Uni pod filter. Gearing is standard SX gearbox with 15/46. So far, I've put over 600 miles on the motor and it is a joy to ride.
Like most everyone else, it took me a little while to get the jetting dialed in because I think I am the only person running a Keihin 28 (on the Avanti) and it was difficult finding much information on other forums...the jetting is still a bit rich, but I'm being cautious. BTW, I'm getting about 55 miles per gallon. There is significant improvement in torque compared to my old Rapido and there is noticeable grunt from the motor...hard to describe, but definitely Avanti specific. I ride around many hills around my house in Southern California and this kit is a perfect match for the terrain. The additional torque from the Avanti pulls up the hills without much effort and I'm very happy with the purchase.
I haven't taken it past 65-68 MPH, but that is at 3/4 throttle...
Cheers,
Dave

@OCsuedehead what jetting did you end up with?
I am running a kiehin pwk 28mm no filter on standard sx gearing with a avanti clubman, also fitted a LTH reed valve ( piston not modified at the moment) the carb has 40 pilot,JJH needle middle clip and 140 main jet. set the carb up on my home made AFR setup and running slightly on the rich side.
the ride is hard to describe, feels fluffy at lower revs but kicks in harder around 4500 Rpm, still pushes at the lower revs just different?

Lujote - I ended up with 45 pilot, 2nd clip w/JJH and 168 main. I just started running 3% oil mixture, so I don't know if I'll need to readjust...I'll do plug chops again after 750 miles and finetune the jetting. Currently, I'm at sea level...I had to run leaner when I was in Las Vegas for High Rollers...too rich due to altitude. I may also experiment with a different needle to see if I can sort out occasional slight bogging (after warming up) going from 1/2 throttle to 3/4. Not sure if it is my Uni filter or not but not too concerned until fully run in.lujote wrote:@OCsuedehead what jetting did you end up with?

Try a GJH, slightly leaner in the mid sectionOCSuedehead wrote:.... I may also experiment with a different needle to see if I can sort out occasional slight bogging (after warming up) going from 1/2 throttle to 3/4.

Todays update with some serious riding in changing conditions and steep yorkshire hills:
The avanti today really passed the ronseal test (does what it says on the tin
) with flying colours and in strong head winds up the steep hills between Scarborough and Whitby it forced itself effortlessly to the top with just winding on the throttle without pause or need for changing up and down the box and I must say what is usual grimace on the face was just a broad smile as it took on the form of torque monster then happily carried on its way cruising at 55mph on the straights and the nice change of going into a bend in 4th and coming out in 4th and winding on with ease back to cruising speed made for a less stressful ride than usual constantly up and down the box and will no doubt benefit the fuel consumption not to mention stress and strain on other engine components..
I must say with every passing mile it just gets better and better and the wholy grail of a rally tourer that doesnt blow up every other rally and makes ease of hills and cruises with little effort and is fuel efficent might just be on the shelfs right now
14 litres of fuel used today = 3 gallons and 130 miles Hull to Whitby / Whitby to Hull = 41 miles to the gallon
is that correct
Only downside was the blow out on the way home and the need for a new tube and new kegs
