There are 2 green wires that plug into the CDI, one comes from the LT coil on the stator and the other goes up to the ignition switch (or cutout button). Ingition switches (esp indian ones) have a rendancy to short out inside and this puts an earth on ther ignition feed and kills or reduces the voltage available to provide a spark. It/'s a 2 second job to pull the green wire off the CDI thus eliminating the switch. If it starts and runs fine with the wire disconnected, you will need a new switch. You will need to stop the engine by putting it in gear and stallin g it with the gree disconnected.

If it is now running normally then I'd say the fault is either the wire running up to the switch or (most likely) the switch itself. Just bare in mind that the ignition is turned off by connecting the ignition wire to earth. Cheap switches tend to arc across to earth inside the switch due to inferior insulating materials. Unless your scoot has been laid up in the front room, the damp of a garage/shed would probably accelerate the problem. The ScootRs switches are ok as are the ones MB sells.

went for a birl, conked out after 200 yards, took the wire off, had a great 20 min blast around the toon, ace, so, ignition and key the problem? The key, after winter was very very stiff to work.

Im not sure I'd have ordered a new one, old one might be perfectly fine if you take off the headset (which you have to anyway) and inspect the wiring, could simply be the earth chaffing on a rod and might only need moving and a bit of insulating tape.
