We had a very nice chap in to see us at the garage today, he's a journalist for a scooter magazine.....he came to do a review on the kit, take some pics of a cylinder, test ride and photo Andys scooter, get some dyno charts and tech info....it all went very well...coming soon to a newsagents near you! Lol.

All we need now is for Andy to run the fecker in so we can crack on and port/tune it! Lol ;o)

just leave it ticking over at seans for a hour or two to bed the rings in, 1/4 and 1/2 throttle are no good to run things in anyway, the fuel cools the engine so you want to be using the main jet a bit to do that. This weather is ideal for running scooters in as the cold air stops them getting too hot. You would probably feel it freeing up on the way home as things bed in . Just grow some and get on with it woman

lol, 2 kind Hull chaps dropping a scooter off at Seans today kindly brought mine back for me as i was in the midlands most of the day, just had a quick blast but the back roads are pretty bad with snow so didn't go daft, first impression wwwwwooooooaaaaahhh wwwwwooooooaaaaahhh

Important
Alloy Nickel Silicone Carbide cylinders have been used for many years and you may well have owned one. However this kit is different and you MUST follow these instructions to the letter! If you think you can just bed the rings in for 50 miles or so and go for a blast then you had better think again. Please be patient follow the instructions, if you do not, I will know.
Whilst the TT3 will be more forgiving to heat seizures than other kits, ignition timing and jetting of the carburettor is still critical at any time but more so during the initial set up and running in period. At ¼ throttle you are running on the pilot jet, if this is weak you can still seize an engine even at 35 mph.
IF IN DOUBT ASK.
Cold piston seizures
This is a condition where a piston expands quicker than the cylinder in certain conditions, causing a piston to seize.
Because this engine runs cooler than any other Lambretta air cooled kit you MUST WARM THE ENGINE BEFORE moving off for about a minute even after running in. Keep engine RPM down to about 3,000 rpm for the first mile.
In Cold Conditions make sure you allow more time to warm the engine up.
This Kit also has a central exhaust port and care must be taken whilst running in.
Always use good quality synthetic oil, whilst running in use at 4% for the first 500 miles, thereafter this may be dropped to 3%. Use an NGK B8ES spark plug or equivalent whilst running in then maybe changed if necessary to a B9ES
Running in
First 200 miles stay below 45 mph and vary the speed (RPM)
Next 200 miles stay below 55 mph and vary the speed (RPM)
Next 100 miles stay below 65 mph and vary the speed (RPM)
For the next 250 miles keep varying the speed whilst gradually increasing the speed, do not hold at maximum speed for any length of time. Do not hold at maximum speed until you have done at least 750 miles.
Extra care must be taken whilst running in if you are running into a head wind or going up hill, slow down and use a lower gear if necessary, the engine must not labour in any conditions.

*Update*

Just managed to put on 60 ish miles as I had the time this morning so it was up and out for me, filled up and 4% rock oil and away I went,

Started off with estate riding short sharp revs and plenty of gear changes warming the engine completely then off to the coast which for me living in the east of Hull and on the outskirts is easy accessible so a ride out to Hornsea via aldbrough and cowden was just the ticket as there's no long straights just short runs and plenty of tight corners which was great for changing up and down the box and varied throttle positions (not above 1/2 I might add) due to the 45mph limit for the first 200 miles I found a lot of 3rd gear running due to the low speed and a strongish head wind and with little or no traffic with it being a wednesday morning made for easy riding throughout.

I must admit its difficult to really assess the kit in these early stages due to the strict running in procedures but I will do my best to pass on slow speed short revs experiences from this morning :

Coming out of tight corners and revving on in 2nd gear the kit feels really strong and makes short work of getting up to speed and I felt it was really wanting more but a quick change up to third again due to running in procedures and it happily revved on again and pulled very strongly up to 45 mph (lammy speedo) then on to 4th which it really wasn`t ready for but gladly sat at low revs until any incline or gust of head wind then it was a click back down to 3rd gear and it was chomping at the bit again and wanting to rev out so it was 1/4 throttle for much of the time.

All in all due to the need for subtle running in needs like I said it will be hard to assess the kit certainly for the first 200 miles as it would seem 4th gear is some what redundant if you take the coastal route for running in miles and would suggest more town riding at least for the first 200 miles then with the introduction of a 55mph limit for the next 200 miles it will certainly begin to open Pandora`s box and give me more to assess at a higher speed but for now the signs are a strong kit has been developed which will certainly give Avanti owners the wow factor and a real mile muncher and felt fully loaded with rally gear and her indoors on board will be right up this kits street as it felt so strong through the rev range with the added bonus of not having to ride with your fingers over the clutch...fingers crossed.
