SS tubeless wheels + 100/90

I'm fairly sure all the hooha was about mild steel tubless rims, Sticky's investigation certaily was. The problem as I recall was that tubeless rims are formed by 'rolling' which causes 'thinning' on the bends. Split rims are pressed and do not suffer from the thinning problem. I accept there is a potential risk with any stanless product but personally I am happy to continue using mine with regular checks.

Ah, I'd forgotten that one but Sticky makes the point it was down to a batch from Stirling. I probably wouldn't buy any more though

I've got a set of stainless split rims from Rich Presley and I haven't had a problem with them.
I've also got a set of split tubeless rims from Patron Racing at Doncaster that I've also had no problems with apart from I can't fit the tyres myself,so Pat charged me £8 last time to fit one .
I'll keep checking the stainless ones.
Do they show any signs of splitting or do they just go all of a sudden?

is there any difference between split rims then and tubeless SS in this respect?


Also, when they go do they tend to show cracks do you see them or do they just go.

Finaly, anyone know if other factors play a part in their safety? eg pillion, speed, distance travelled at the time.

I already had to change one bloody set of scootrs the ver 1 because Scootrs informed me they may be defective, they then offered SS before all this came out. So noooooooooooo not again

Not really concerned with the "shiny" aspect, at the time i naively thought stainless was stronger. I understand the "give" factor in SS now.

But everyone says "Split rims" arent tubless rims seen as a safer alternative now?

I think the only factor here is what YOU feel comfortable and SAFE with using, but I would strongly urge you to read as much as you can on the issue and make your own mind up. After all it is, in the end, YOUR choice.
