The first time I ever went scooter racing I had a good look at what set ups everyone was using. This was before the days of BGM and Targa Line and there was some exotic set ups out there, some looking like they were probably a few hundred quids worth but the fastest scooter out there was Ralph Saxelby and his group 6 racer was fitted with Escort front shocks. I agree with Lamaddict as the spring is the important bit, it's the spring that absorbs the bumps and undulations, the shocker is there to slow down the rebound of the spring.

On reflection though I usually finished last [when I did manage to finish] and I used Escorts too so I reckon Ralph's were some exotic magic samples from Escort.

No, it was not your Escorts, it was your orange bib.....as I found out, like Samson having his hair cut off, orange bibs deplete your race strength and reduce you to a mere crash happy mortal.

You're right and also nothing to stop it falling over when cornering.

Scootopia's progressive springs are, in my experience, not much better than standard. The MB ones are much better. More expensive though.

I always thought highly of the yellow Cam Lam progressive springs apart from the daft colour. I've recently converted to using as many Scootopia parts as possible, love the quality, including the progressive springs and yes they don't seem quite as responsive as the Cam Lam ones but still okay.
So, back to the point of front dampers. The fork rebuild with new rubbers and the new springs makes all the difference, not the dampers IMO.

I guess it's horses for courses, there's the non-adjustable BGM dampers, which I'm sure are great quality, and look nice, but with the adjustable ones, you can set them to respond in a way that suits you. I'm using the same antidive set ups on both my bikes, one with std dampers which bottoms out all the effing time, and adjustable BGM on the other that rides like a dream. So... ya pays ya money and takes ya choice, but I like 'em

for me changing to cam lam progressive springs was "night and day" change in performance

changing from escort to bgm dampers not so much........ i like them though.
