I`m interested to know - I`m about to embark on a casing conversion with a very helpful work colleague in our medical engineering dept.

he can do all the boring and re tapping with no problem etc but cant do the ali welding - I dont want to give the ali welding to someone else to give rise to blame if anything goes wrong - so I mentioned plugging the holes so it can be all done "inhouse" and he was quiet receptive to the idea.

Welded i believe, but he does plug some stuff. I drop the casings off with whichever kit i want to fit, explain where i want new studs and trench, how deep for what crank etc and let him deliver them back to me done. Last time he converted some small blocks with a snapped stud into RB250 casings and was spraffing on about cutting out the old stud holes before welding up and machining etc.......others he has plugged when its been appropriate. I'll have to check what he did on these ones.
