Do you usually run with the panels on? If not it'd be interesting to see if removing the panels makes a big difference.

Hi Red, I'll work the $ bit after the field testing,may be a bit later due to a few other non-scooter related issues I need to focus on...stupid economic downturn :evil:

tried running the old girl without panels still get warm but not as much,
other suggestion was the fly wheel fan not man enough for the job?
using ducati lightened with plastic fins?
anybody else encountering this problem. :?

I took the panels off after a couple of different runs to check.

After a slow city center ride in heavy traffic the engine mounts were too hot to touch and there were waves of heat distortion visible in the air pouring off the barrel area.

After a breezy blast up a deserted A road they were only warm to the touch.

Looks like the more "room temperature" air you have blowing past the cooler it remains (latent heat and evaporation theory spring to mind from school physics classes). One thing that made me think, my head cowling is matt black. Would it help if it were gloss white? Or chromed on the inside? Is "ducting" the heat away through the route forced by the cowlings better than having it radiate straight out through the metal of the cowlings themselves?

How do carbon cowlings behave?

Lots of scope for some test and evaluation here!
