I'm led to believe there are knock off plugs around.
No mate i didn,t buy them all from place , the 1st had been in scoot for ages the 2nd was new from a mate at the scooter club and the 3rd an old one out of my garage .

the smoke may just be the excess fuel / oil being burnt off as you eventualy get it going after loadsa kicking it over, similar to a flooded engine.
Check all wiring and soldering on the stator plate, all electrical contacts and joins in the ignition circuit and that your timing hasn't moved cos your flywheel - woodruff key has sheared.
Replacing your stator with a mates one that you know works is often the only way to iron out such intermittent faults. Like Mark said, my moneys on the LT coil / pick up breaking down thou.
