The front shocks work in conjunction with your fork springs, so its important to get the balance right.
Too stiff dampers and you are putting stress on your damper studs / lugs rather than letting the fork springs do the compression work...on the road this would feel too hard and you'll end up snapping the above probably. Ideally you want the fork springs to handle the majority of the compressional forces with the dampers controlling the majority of the rebound...which is why Mark probably asked if you could reduce the damping effect.
Of course your choice of fork springs needs to be factored into the above, and If these are adjustable both ways then you could possibly fit standard lammy springs and dial in a touch of shock damping to give a softer feel to the front end? However you then have possible issues of brake dive........so linked to an anti-dive set-up these could prove a neat solution to those folk with the Spanish 9mm stud links?

can't remember if it's standard or lowered ones
old mini in situ
old mini vs original lince
drive it 2000kms with no problems
