I had this done years ago on a TS1 and wouldn't say it makes much difference.I spoke to Harry Barlow about doing this and he said don't bother.Food for thought.

cheers for the info wack, there must be a bit to be gained or they would'nt have botherd with the extra bit on the bottom of the cylinder ?. i had this motor (carb) set up on a dyno when i first built it it would be good to see if there is any difference after my home tuning 8-)

My Imolas had this done for approx 5 years now, plus extra welding to the casings to give a wider gasket face. Only really worth doing if you plan to fit a nice revvy pipe, larger carb etc. Keep gearing to approx 5.4 as you'll find you'll get 20HP quite easily but can be a touch peaky. Standard reeds help to promote torque and the racy V force ones have a rep of only lasting one good season. Would recommend fitting any of the MBD (racetour?) inlet rubbers too, never had a problem with them.
Hope that helps

set up will be ....

dellorto vhsh 30mm
v force reeds
mbd rev-tour exhaust
varitronic ignition
head is set at 10.5 = 1
clutch is a ssc cassette type, 5 plate
gearing is li150 on to 15/46 ( would not pull a 16 in winds or up hill)

last dyno when first built was 19bhp
exhaust was a scootrs pm copy
carb was phbh 28mm
no tuning on cylinder, straight out of the box
ignition was imola "eta" ( a bit like an agusto box) on indian set up
