Hydraulic rear brake

the hydraulic rear drum was experimented with in the 1960's

Basically a Mini brake cylinder was connected to the rear brake pedal and a hydraulic line was ran to a slave set up on the rear actuating arm.

Apparently it worked very well, possibly too well as it caused major rear wheel lock ups and pushed the rear drum out of shape with ease.

There was an article in one of the motorcycle mags of the era which I did have but has now long gone.

My understanding is that the slave cylinder pushed out rams onto the end of each shoe meaning that both shoes engaged at the same time as opposed to the cable set up where only one shoe tends to do the braking...?
