i have an indian stage 4 , it gives me no trouble , i drove it 700 miles to lincoln and back full out and no seize , it has about 3500 miles on it now ..i run a race rapido 200 which is definately faster and has yet to give any trouble,,i agree with the comments theres something wrong if its seizing or holing pistons its not the cast iron's fault...

Im sat on this side, my proper stage 4 iron barrel with asso piston was nipping until Dan got his hands on and work his dyno magic on it and its now running as Sean intended it to..fast responsive with bags of torque and can be thrashed to within an inch of its life and stay cool as a cucumber..dyno bollox........give me it everyday of the week..soosh wrote:I run a stage 4 (genuine) and been 100% reliable. its true that many "old school" tuners are quite capable of setting up carbs etc in the old fashioned way of testing on the road...blasting up and down...stopping and starting...doing plug chops at various throttle openings....and this is how i used to do it myself prior to dan getting the dyno in..
but considering the amount of time in hours and labour charged to do it this way and the amount of fuel used cost wise...it is in no way cost effective compared to a dyno run...
we do of course do road runs but only to check before and after results and to check things in the real world ...but the point is...a dyno test is more cost effective to the customer and saves us time...
i also realise that experience in setting up carbs on the road plays a big part in all this and that if turning out certain tunes/specs, one can just refer to previous notes which is helpfull to the tuner and cheaper to the customer.......

I know what your saying but its cost effective if a dyno is near and the person genuinely knows what their doing. I get all my motors dyno`d now cos i cant be arsed with plug chops and im impatient but certainly understand the "dyno bollox" When he did my kit,he gave me a jetting spec (which proved reliable) and also advise on float heights and float needle valves and nobody i spoke to at the time talked of stuff like that.

Spot on mate,all turned out well.Well... a bit of work required but at least you know why.Tosh wrote:well found out what was wrong bottom gasket had blown, will check how deep the scores are before we decided what to do,i`ll try an twist his arm an get a rebore/horne

thanks soosh for that,and all who replied going to call at chaps across the road from our works,performance pushrods who i speek to him regular hope he can fit my brothers in,he also has a web page re builds old motorcycles from the ground up,he buys conrods then machines the webs from solid blocks and them balances them,very handy gent to have around but i know he`s flat out at mo with work.
