i wish to fit one of these to my ts1,ive read the debate on the other forums, being a little "green" with regards to this sensor can those who use one shed some light on the pro,s and cons of it and maybe recomend a model and supplier

It really is a useful tool I have learnt that evry engine will run at different temperatures but around 600deg F seems to be the ball park. The thermocouple needs to be 100mm fron the piston skirt or as near as damn it as you can't be totally accurate. It will help you to see where hot and cold parts are with your jetting and adjust he carb to suit, but, be aware you could play for absolutely ages and still never get even temperature throught the full rev range. Once you're happy with your set-up you can then use it to tell you if your engine is over heating and check before it goes bang. Enjoy, it's good fun

thanx soulsurfer....which thermocouple probe do you use,i notice theres a choice of three?..is this all i need for the system?
Soulsurfer
I used this one...

Drill and tap the hole on the exhaust, screw it in and weld around it, job done, and, yes that's all that you need. Let us know how you get on?

this is on my plans for next year, what power source does it need, and can it be backlit ?
soulsurfer
No powersource required, but not backlit either

o am i right by saying ....the theory being,if it runs hot at a certain rev range it requires upjetting at that point?weather it be by the needle at midrange or the main jet at full bore?...plus its an indicatrion to throttle off if givin the scoot some welly and the temp goes above the norm?
soulsurfer
Yes

when 2 plum pudding yesterday and seen a nice 1 on charley edmonds bike he may be able 2 help?

position of the sensor?100mm from piston skirt,i take it that means not in a straight line?ie 100mm piece of string that follows the u downpipe from the exhaust port?
Avantone
In practice it's rolling off the throttle that sends the temp skywards. Someone did a really good write up on the LCGB of their observations under different road/riding conditions which is worth reading.
Bigbaldy
So could a ETG be linked to a sensor that actuated a water spray into the exhaust at a given temp?
Bigbaldy
And has anybody tried it?
Avantone
I'm sure a certain tall person has tried it!
RinB
Not that tall person riding that group4 racer that drips water when at a standstill
Avantone
Well I think he had it activated on a button - saying that, I never understood why people got so upset about it - It was a damn good idea that was cheap to put into practice (sour grapes I feel for not thinking of it first)
gary ash
my rb temp drops when rolling of throttle
The EGT thread
well ive obtained one...how far should the probe enter into the exhaust....the nut that was supplied it quite long too so i might shorten it...im worried about restricting the gas flow through the pipe

I PLACED IT ROUGHLY SO THAT THE TIP WOULD BE IN THE CENTRE OF THE PIPE. Oops sorry to shout

I know, you have to put it in enough so that the tip is in the centre of the pipe. Measure it, down pipes are all different diameters in different places.
