first off , how much money do you want to spend? budget...DR 180, 24mm standard P200 carb, simonini exhaust, 21 tooth clutch. next step up, something like a Malossi 166, ported casings, cut, or race crank, 28mm dellorto, and a JL or PM exhaust with a 21 tooth clutch. money to burn? quattrini, mikuni carb, reedvalve, massive porting and ally welding, mmw 16 spring clutch, variatronic ignition with light flywheel, the worlds your lobster really. there is just a huge range of stuff to choose from compared to years ago. if its a 1988 scoot, i"d get all bearings, gaskets, oilseals, cruciform, and anything else suspect replaced first before you do any serious tuning, otherwise you"ll be wasting your money when it blows up because of a dodgy bearing or 50p seal . believe me , i know. also, get some good tyres, shocks, and think of a disc brake as well. it"s 22 years old remember.

How good is the quattrini kit??

Ive got a px 125 fittedwith a 166 kit with malossi pipe, race crank and 26 del running around 14 BHP but it feels slow .Compared with a 225,210 and 172 kits that were on others scoots on a ride out the other day its making me think should i just buy a 200 or add the quattrini . I was left way behind and thought is my 166 punching above its weight??

the old "how much money have you got." the 166 is a little flyer if set up right, ive done a few that would easily out gun standard p200 and gp200"s, and are reliable as both. heard good things about Quattrinis , but never tried one myself due to the price, and i have a malossi 220 anyway. like you say, your out with 210"s, 225"s , T5 172"s etc, faster scooters, with probly more spent on the motor. i did a lads malossi 172 T5 not long ago, SIP head,172 barrel kit 28mm dellorto and manifold, strenghtened clutch, plates and steels, oil, uprated springs, JL righthand exhaust, cables, fast flow tap from SIP, and other bits. the parts were nearly a grand. he"s over the moon with it, it flys. but if you say to most p-range owners "gis a grand for bits" theyll look at you like you"ve got two heeds. most , have a cheap kit(polini, malossi, DR), cheap carb (invariably a 24 ,or reamed out 26mm standard dellorto/spaco) and cheap pipe, (simonini, sito plus, polini etc.) and pay about 250-300 quid for the lot, and expect them to blow TS1"s away , when TS/RB owners are paying that for a carb or clutch!.

Tech Q to Golden eye from some one who admits has no tech skills at all

If i add a malossi reedvalve to my current set up as mentioned will it give me any worth while improvement??

Also ive now done over a 1000 miles since it was all fitted is it worth getting it back on the the dyno??

Also would an incorrect set up mean i have disapointing power??

Any advice welcome and Dazza how are you with back lights??

yeah, a wrong set up will give dissapointing results, without knowing your set up , i cant really give you a ball park. 28mm dellorto, a good pipe like JL righthand, PM , 21 tooth clutch, and you really need to have the casings matched. reedvalve-ing it will entail loadsa money and work.
i"d go for the 28 carb first. you say "back on the dyno" so its been dynod before? if so, and your dissapointed with the set up, i"d consult your engine builder, and dyno operator first.

Back to the builder for a check up i think.

For my other which is a lot newer (57 PX 125 with less tahn 1000 miles) still confused and unsure what ill do to this but standard feels amazingly slow.

I want it to cruise at 70 and get there in a sharp fashion- decisions decisions decisions???

happy to pay for quality and reliablity so again all advice welcome

Phil
