Drain some oil, sniff it.. common prange fault.. seal may be gone, not necessarily coming out. Its a rubbish design.. why they ever did it I really dont know.
I loctite the new ones it if metal type.
Useless info time... smallies simply draw in the gearbox oil and burn it if a seal goes.. pranges fill the gear box with petrol..

Had another one round last night, same symptoms and oil all over the back wheel, going to check the rings first as he thinks it may have had a soft seize before the problems started......

Turned out the seize was the route of the trouble, it didn't look too bad at first and thought i was going to have to delve deeper but once the rings were swapped- happy days.. the oil on the rear wheel...anyone any ideas??

carb box loose. 2 stroke going down back of engine, and onto back wheel, instead of into engine=siezed top end and oil on back of motor. is his engine filthy dirty behind the carb box? or main oil seal again, pressurising gearbox, and spitting oil out the breather, or , has it got a side stand fitted? thatll make oil spew out at tickover on the stand, and cover the back wheel. oil sits in the clutch cover when at a jaunty angle. ;)

Carb and box seemed ok, not on a side stand, smoked like it had oil getting through..one thing that crossed my mind - with the rings knackered, would gasses being blown past the piston back into the crank case cause enough pressure to get past the (hopefully ok ) seal?

Set about this one this morning, changed rear hub seal, all seals round hub back plate, changed the clutch and the seal around the clutch cover, gave it a good clean etc etc, filled it up with gear oil and watched it run out onto the back tyre  :?

There was a hole in the casing, looks like a casting fault..oil just pissed out of it
It was right at the bottom of the engine right next to the hub back plate..very strange.
Anyway , I cleaned the hole and casing, popped some devcon in the hole and around the area and all is good :D

the inner seal has failed and you blocking that hole has cured it.

Or...a drain hole to allow any seepage out before getting to the brake shoes?..
