Nice bit of 'evidence' 'Fire' Where's that taken from? Perhaps the writer, like you worked out/guessed for himself why a 12V speedo lamp was fitted.
It still doesn't explain why Innocenti didn't simply fit a 6V 1W lamp!
If you are correct, it flies in the face of the information given by several respected Lambretta afficionados.

Direct quote from Sticky's Spanners Manual page 100.

"IMPORTANT. Note that on all 6-volt systems, the speedo light bulb should be 12 volt 2.5 - 4 watt. A 12v bulb helps to absorb excess electrical power."

I believe most of those articles were written by Dick Sedgely, someone that actually knew what they were talking about and very respected, unlike the writer of the scootering articles on electrics last year, which were quite frankly embarrassingly incorrect on several things. But as they are in print I suppose we should take them as factually correct?
But you are correct in that I worked it out myself. As a qualified electrical fitter I know that a simple filament cannot change it's physical properties , it cannot act as a reg, or sink power disproportionally to any other filament in parallel with it. Therefore this leaves the only explanation for it being 12v is the brightness of the lamp, unless you have another reason?

I'm using an LED speedo lamp in one of my lammy's, the light is a fairly soft blueish glow, much better imho that the dazzle from the 12v bulb in my other one. I cna't remember the fitting type (ba9?) but this looks very much like what I'm using .

HOWEVER, if you are doubting what Firekpd is saying, I can't see that it will help you Personnaly I have great respect for Firekpds contributions on electrical matters, I regard him and J1MS as gurus in all things electrical

Cheers Coaster, I like the idea of the bluish one you have; a bit VW Golf stylee. Just want something a bit dimmer than what I have now. 'T would be great if you could find out where you got yours from.

Hi Dapper, I think I have a spare LED you can have, I'll pop it in the post.
I would also think about fire's advice too as I found the LED a poor fit in my speedo

I bought some blue LEDs from Maplins and fitted two into the speedo housing, gives a cool blue glow, yes, very much like VWs.
I too go with firekdp's advice on electrical matters.
