Can I use this to run a spotlight?

This is the spot light that Martin mentions in his first post on this thread.

As he says, it is rated at 9w and is amazingly bright. At 9W, it would consume 1Ah in 1 hour 20minutes. So a 3.2Ah battery would last over 4 hours between recharges. However, you will not see THAT sort of life out of the one on the MB site, as I doubt if that is rated as 0.5Ah (and it has really cheap terminals on the end of the wires).

The battery on the MB site is rated as 3700 mAh. I just looked it up and amended the website information. Hope that helps.

Thanks Ian. So the battery is 0.37Ah, so it would power the 9W light for about 15mins.

It's 3.7Ah, You cocked up on the decimal point. I'm glad you aren't a pharmacist or a nurse in kids intensive care.

What is Capacity (mAh)?

The capacity of a battery is rated in mAh or Ah. If the capacity of a battery is 4400mAh (Milli-Amp Hour), it means that this battery can deliver 4400 mA (Milli-Amps) of current for 1 hour at the rated voltage. The actual amount of current a notebook draws depends on the usage. Things like LCD brightness, processor usage and hard drive usage affects the amount of current required.

To convert mAh to Ah, divide by 1000. To convert Ah to mAh, multiply by 1000. 4400mAh = 4.4Ah

3.7 amps per hour, it's bigger than I thought..

Or 3.7hours at 1 amp, which frankly, is incredible, especially as this appears to be 10 x 1.2v rechargeable AA dry-cells. It has more power than a sealed lead-acid battery with the dimensions of 134mm x 67mm x 64mm. I am surprised that a battery with such incredible power is fitted with cheap squash terminals, when it should clearly be powering a new electric car.

Anyway, all this discussion might be pointless, as the excellent LED spot light shown above has disappeared from ebay. :(

That's the battery i went for when i had the trailtech vapor, its three years old next year and still going strong, i even forgot to keep it charged last winter and it worked fine after a recharge.
Now if someone could get this to fit

Chalkie at replay scooters sorted out a mates problem, he wanted his lambretta to power pathfinder lights when the standard lights were on, power for a garmin 660, powerlet outlet socket for heated clothing etc all sorted with a battery from a electric start vespa
TS1 and PX stay in the garage (future barn finds) out on the GTS 300 when I go out on a scooter.
I know I’ll get there and back

Yes that would be incredible, but no battery rated at 3700mAh (lead acid or other) could supply 3.7A for an hour. Battery discharge rates aren't as simple as that.
Insulated crimps are also fine as long as they are put on with the correct crimp tool (not the cheap Halfords type), fitted many to military spec control systems and I don't believe there are much higher standards than they demand.
