oooo no I had a problem with a telivision which kept blowing a fuse on the circuit board. So, as you do, I put a bigger fuse in. It was fine for about 5 minutes....thern ther was a loud bang and the room was suddenly full of smoke and a confetti made of tiny particles of metalic foil

A capacitor is just 2 layers of foil seperated by an insulator which is often oiled paper. I reckon that the vibration might cause the insulation to break down and cause a short circuit and hence the explosive result.

Off topic I know but I did a similar thing, was watching MOTD in bed a few years ago, the fuse blew in the tv (a regular thing) I put tin foil round the fuse like you do (and I'm a sparky ) I then fell asleep only to be awoken a few hours later with the tv on fire literally flames coming out the back, a filter (transformer) had caused it

put tin foil round it ive used a nail as a main incomer fuse

Always have a good look at 'em before installing. The top starting to come away from the edging is not a good sign either. Glad you found it.
