Hi,
Having to use my MK1 muggy 186 engine in my C2C ride tommorrow and I'd forgotton what a pain the PWK carb on it was. I have a PHBH 28 and 30 with a fair few jets so was wondering what rcommendation for ball park settings?
Full engine spec is as follows:
Engine: Mugello 186 Mk1, cases matched to the transfers and manifolds matched to the ports. Reaper head.
Timing: 17deg (with 6000 Augusto)
Exhaust: JL3.
Need to get it sorted today.

Col, is your PWK just rich mid range? If so, it may be better to just live with it rather than try and set a carb from scratch in a rush
You can always avoid Hardknott and go the longer way

Given to me by someone who used PHBH 30 with scootrs exhaust on his Muggy 186 and it ran well.
Start with 52/55 idle
40/45 slide
AV266 atomiser
X7 needle or X13 if need to be richer
Main 125 (on the rich side)
Should be pretty close.

Paul, the reasoning for wanting to change is just that I'd forgotten what a pain the PWK was for bogging down at low revs and also the warm starting asnd unreliable tickover. The Mick Abbey tunned 225 started 1st or 2nd kich hot or cold and would tickover all day long. I put that down to the PHBH. I have to change the chain on the muggy today so I might not have any time left for last minute carb swaps anyway

I've got a Muggello 186 v2 + JL3 + 28 PHBH (foam filter) and this is the jetting I'm using with a standard GP200 gearbox and sprockets:
Slide 40
AV264
Pilot 53
Main 118
Needle X13 clip 2.5 (2nd slot plus 1/2 position washer)
On my Koso EGT I get about 635 degrees at mid range cruise, but if I richen the needle anymore it gets a bit boggy on acceleration.
Goes well and gives about 10 miles per litre.
