Does anyone know where I can buy a proper cylinder hone ( sunnen or similar ) in the uk or can recomend an international supplier
not a sprung loaded 3 prong or flexi hone . I am fed up of trying to build an engine only to find there's only .002 " clearance on the piston.
many thanks Paul

A single phase one went on Ebay item number 270633182949. There is actually little to choose between Sunnen or Delapina and the tooling is mostly interchangable. This item on Ebay was way over priced and it not really the the type you want for Lambretta barrels. The Ideal would be a Sunnen Speed hone, ideally with gauging built in (this tells you the progression of the bore as you go rather than having an "Oh sh1t" moment.
For a small single phase machine (like that) the absolute tops I would pay was £100 especially if there was no tooling with it. Tooling is the expensive bit and Lambretta barrels require quite a specialised mandrel. The one we used was a 2.5" keyway mandrel, this uses a single 12mm wide stone and does not snag in the ports as the smaller single 6mm stones tend to do. A 2.5" mandrel would cost about £350 + stones, + oil, + time, + power, + space and mess.
Steer clear of the "knodding donkey" style honers, these are for cylinder blocks and big jobs. I was getting 100 bores done at a time and after investigation it was not worth it for me to buy a honing machine.
