I've got a 1970 and the one I've just taken off is plastic...is that correct then (sorry for hi-jacking)?

To begin with early machines had painted horn and seat grilles, with the later black plastic - Quoted directly from LCGB site (apologies if that's not allowed?)

I'm just after much black plastic as I can get, original or not...Toolbox, grilles, legshield rubber clips, sharksteeth, fuel & choke levers, fuel flap, back mudguard. wish there was a front light rim in plastic too.

It's not an exact science - it's the later models that have the plastic bits, but if it's got a plastic petrol flap (metal and plastic flaps have different hinges - you can't interchange them), then it's 99% likely the scooter should have plastic grills.

Cheers for info. Mine has metal petrol flap & metal rear frame grille but plastic front grille!

If you're trying to do a standard type of resto, if you haven't already, take a look at this thread: http://www.forums.ilambretta.com/viewto ... ?f=22&t=18

They were originally alloy. But I assume that cost might have become a factor because they changed to black plastic towards the end of production.
