What's happening to pistons

suzukis are great in rapidos. but ive never heard of an ASSO giving up on a well set up motor. i run an ASSO, and its been no bother . that bottom groove , what looks like an oil retaining groove, on the racetours, has always had me wondering if it would get pushed up into the bottom ring land, then that would push the bottom into the top one etc. i was with mag when his TS1 let go. he had just adjusted his clutch, started the scooter, on the stand, blipped the throttle twice, and bang, it went dead. we first said it was his cylinder head that came loose. left it, he got it home (only down the road) and stripped it to find the damage. he"s quite pragmatic about it, he knows having a fast as fook motor costs in the end, but the damage its caused is major. he"s got my spare top end on his yellow GP200, to REALLY p155 him off, i"m gonna ask for that back! :lol: and he"s ginger!

Starting to wonder if should strip top end down and check.
