classically looking rev counter help
help , tried to fit a rev counter to my 60s rep , but found it to be faulty , tried wrapping wire around ht lead but dosnt respond !! when i plug it into battery it works !!!! any ideas or where can i get one that works ie 60mm dial or there abouts to run off ht lead

All the rev counters need a power supply or have there own battery. The wire that wraps around the HT lead just sends a signal to the rev counter it wont power it.
If you need a seperate power supply and your scoot doesnt have a battery, you can either fit one or mb do a Koso AC to DC rectifier thats very small and can fit into your headset.

Sorry that's not true. sorry forgot to tell you running a live from stator , earth and wire to ht lead and get nothin , plug into a 12 volt battery only and dial moves up to 5 thousand ? any ideas

So its powered from the lighting circuit (as i said ) and uses the pulse from the lighting circuit also instead of the HT lead field. Thats a different type.Lamaddict wrote:Sorry that's not true. If you have the type that the wire wraps around the HT lead you still need power from somewhere! and if you put the wire into the lighting circuit (live) it would destroy the rev counter

Yes rev counters of this design need DC ( ie from a battery) NOT AC current and as has already been said if you put AC through it you will destroy the internal diodes. Koso do various rev counters with the traditional needle & dial face and are 48mm diameter with chrome bezel , backlight and shift light. They come with a white OR a black face All you need is a 12v ( Gel not liquid )Motorbike battery which you can hide in the toolbox and an on/off switch to save power when not in use.
PM Tuning used to sell them but if thats no longer the case you can get them from the Koso website.

Have just 3 wires - Red, Blue & Black, on a Koso GP analogue tacho.
Is it:-
Black -Earth?
Red - Battery?
Blue - HT lead?
Using Silicone HT lead...still ok?
