Chain case studs comming loose

Hi,

Went for a 60 mile round trip to Norwich the other night and have just noticed that one of the studs that the exhaust brocket bolts to has disapeared complete with the nut and the other one is loose. I used Loctite Threadlock (red type) on both studs and nuts and the casing is a new SIL 200. The exhaust is a JL3 so the bracket is ally, maybe that is an issue?

I'm thinking of using wired bolts, any other suggestions?

i eventually cured this problem by using heavy duty loctite with extra long bolts run up till they bottom out then tighten up to bracket with nut using the loctite then lock that one with another nut again using the thread lock,also put large washers between spacers and bracket and lock nuts and bracket as small ones eat into the bracket after time, if that makes any sense hope it helps

Maybe I am saying the same thing? I usually use longer studs loctited to the chaincase at all three points that an exhaust mounts to. I usually have had to die thread them myself because all of the ones that I have purchased at scooter shops need more threads to work properly.

Then I use jam nuts (half height nuts) and spring washers (but you could also use split lock washers) to bolt the chaincase side at these points. Then I bolt on the exhaust using split lock washers and nylock nuts. This makes the studs act as standoffs for the exhaust. It also transmits a lot less vibration into the engine casing.

Easy mod and makes a big difference.

Sounds like a good idea but with the JL it would need some reworking of the front bracket which is thick (4mm?) ally and only just aligns with the bracket on the expansion as it is.

I have resolved the problem using doggbhoy idea with the addition of drilling thr bolt head and lock wiring it.
