Hi.
I have a RB20 and after 100 miles I hear a strange sound in the chain side of the engine.
Today after 190 miles I open the engine and see that the chain is very stretched and I can put the fingers down and the chain can touch the engine case in the up side.
The chain is a IWIS 81 links.
This is not very normal, not?
What can cause this? bad chain?
Thanks for your help!
RB has eaten an IWIS chain in only 190 miles.
Without seeing the engine, it's difficult, in fact impossible, to say why the chain is damaged.
The only thing going through my head at the moment is, are the front and rear sprockets correctly aligned?
Iwis chains are generally regarded as one of the better brands.

same happened to my brand new IWIS chain on a TS 230. dealer told me they stretch when in use from new and to just tighten it again. was reluctant to do so but had no other chain, tightened it up and kept it, however controlled it regularly. there was no further stretching discernible so guess it´s just what they do in the first couple miles and then they stretch no further. it is still in the motor.

Thanks guys!
Maybe one chain stretched more than others, and this one is the one that stretched a lot, too much.
I will put a new one and tell you if the problem persist.

Ok, i will check the alignment when i put the new one.coaster wrote:I think the alignment issue needs to be checked out as mentioned above, probably not very critical on low tuned engines but you're in a different situation with and RB.
The GENUINE iwis chain would only stretch and become useless after about 30,000 miles, MBD have never had a failure with a GENUINE iwis chain which is why we stock them.ArKaTxU wrote:Hi.

I presume you mean that there are fake IWIS chains then, as opposed to inferior barnds? So other than buying from MB, is there a way forum users can spot non-gen item?mouse wrote:stretch and become useless after about 30,000 miles, MBD have never had a failure with a GENUINE iwis chain which is why we stock them.
