Can anyone tell me how to find/mark the firing point on a lambretta flywheel? It's been lightened so there's no fan or marks etc.Not sure how to strobe the timing without an indication on the flywheel itself.
Thanks.

Find TDC by dial guage (best) or by any other method and stamp the marks on the flywheel and mag housing then use these to find the firing point by rotating anticlockwise to required setting.
NO IT'S NOT A F***IN* MOPED!!!!!!

So am I right in thinking by this method the firing mark on the flywheel should actually line up with true t.d.c? (On the mag flange). So just adjust stator plate as normal to find the required firing point before t.d.c? Please tell me it's that simple!
Thanks again.

Not sure what you mean by firing mark on flywheel :? Is as you said about there aren't any marks on the flywheel you just have to do what rog6D said and find tdc (Sticky's book explains this very clearly). When you have established tdc, mark both the flywheel and the mag flange then measure back in anticlowise direction the amount of degrees of advance and make another markon the mag flange. When the mark on the flywheel lines up at ther 2nd mark, THAT is the firing point, put a dab of tipex on all 3 marks and you will be able to strobe it.

not sure if I understand that. What you need to do:-

1) Find TDC (I use the positive stop method)
2) Mark the flywheel AND the mag housing in the same spot
3) Using a degree wheel/disc, measure anticlockwise from the mark on the mag housing (19 degrees or whatever)
4) mark this on the mag housing
5) the stator should be adjusted so the engine fires on this 2nd mark

Thanks for the help. The problem I had was having no mark on the flywheel itself.Finding tdc and marking on the mag flange is no problem, as is marking the correct timing mark on the mag flange.(Say 19 deg. etc). The problem is that I have no mark on the flywheel itself. So, if I understand correctly, I find tdc (using positive stop method, easier for me) mark mag flange AND flywheel at this point, then mark flange at desired timing point AND flywheel. and I should be ok?
Thanks for your patience.

mark TDC using positive stop method on flywheel AND flange.

Mark 19 BTDC on flange using disc

Then turn flywheel anti clockwise to 19 BTDC mark on flange using the mark on the flywheel. This is your firing point.

so long as you find and set your motor to TDC..you can mark the flywheel and flange rim anywhere you like around its circumference.
then turn the flywheel anti clockwise by say 19 degrees to find your firing mark ,and mark the flange to suit.
