5 or 6 kicks from cold doen't sound too bad unless you mean all the time? Anyway, in order to get any meaningful advice you will need to give more detais on what your set up is:

Mainjet size ?
Pilop Jet size ?
Slide number ?
Type of ignition (points or electronic) and what it is timed at(degrees before top dead center)?
Type of plug ?
Oil ratio ?

Also, I'd say you wouldn't normally expect the plug to be 'wet', just a nice choclate brown.

courtjr you said that your barrel has been ported it may be the case that they have taken to much out of the inlet port or off the piston skirt causing you to have a large inlet duration that can cause to much blow back through the carb that will cover the inside of your pannels with fuel & oil + it would also cause bad starting problems This can be fixed by if the piston skirt has been shrotend you can replace it with a new one or if the port has been lowerd it can be re packed with a good quality chemical metal to lift it back up

Cheers

try the trick of turning the petrol off before you stop the engine, and don't turn it on until after the engine is running...
those jetex's seem to have too high a float level imo.
