What to do??

1962 TV175 S3- been converted to electronic in the past, which has worked well to date. Running on TV crank (not GP). I am a "points man" since 1968, and don't understand electronic!!

Last week the scooter developed a vibration, which I took initially to be a problem on the top end (piston slap; small end etc). However- upon inspection it transpires that the central boss on the flywheel is missing 2 rivets and is loose- hence the vibration. The crank is fine- no damage

There is also damage around the stator plate area, and a small blue box (pick-up??), has fallen out of that area on removal of the flywheel. Basically the flywheel and the stator and the blue box thingy are fecked......

Can I simply replace these bits? If so can I "mix and match" as I don't know what make the stuff is.

Alternatively, I have the technology and parts to go back to points (either battery or direct)

Any ideas/ thoughts Oh learned ones?

You can get a new center boss for your flywheel from scooter restorations, and you might as well get a nice new BGM 120w stator while your at it. That would take care of your flywheel, stator, and pick up.

You can easily get a replacement 12v flywheel and stator (scooter Restorations) Don't forget you need it for an SX/LI/TV Crank.
You can buy the centre boss and high tensile bolts to put it in with (mark the keyway position, very important)
I have no personal experience of the BGM 120W stator. But others have said it doesn't live up to it's billing.
Or of course you could go back to olde worlde points.

Hey be careful in changing the center taper of electronic flywheel! if the rivits were loose your rivit holes may be ovaled and are all jacked up. just a warning.

Agree with the above, I wouldn't go back to points if could help it.

I ran my Sx150 on points until the boss detached itself from the flywheel in 2003. I bought the Scooter Restorations electronic kit for the SX crank and it hasn't let me down at all (quick find some wood to touch.... ).

I've bought electronics kits from eBay and SR since and would recommend them without hesitation.

Being of the same era as yourself (and a mechy!), I know what you mean about electronics, but this new fangeled magic does seem to work

I agree with the above too but if you want to keep the cost down and can use a sldering iron than theres no reason why you coiuldn't fix it yourself. Theres on 2 wires to solder on the pickup (blue thingy) and as already mentioned, replace the rivets with high tensile steel bolts (nuts on the outside I think). The pickups are univertsal aqnd you can even use Vespa ones.

..come on Chris come to the party, you know you want to.. , I ran a 200dl early 90s on points and it did nothing but let me down, prob cause i never set them properly but couldnt afford a elecy kit but have since had them on every scoot and would entertain points at all, next up i would like one of those devil boxs they call Augusto...
