pathfinder spot lights

Does any one know how pathfinder spot lights were wired up on the dealer specials that used a modified Li switch????
I'm thinking about converting to full DC fitting a battery and a pair of pathfinders and using the modified Li switch and what I'd like to know is how they were switched?

Does the nearside fot light come on with dipped headlight then go off when main beam head light and spot light comes on?

Or does the fog light stay on all the time and the spot light is switch on and off with main beam?

Or are the pathfinders totally seperate from the headlight circuit? I know for the MOT on cars the spots have to turn off when the main beam is turned off

Originally, they were wired into the 3rd key (main lights) position so that they could not be left on/switched on accidently, flattening the battery. The old pilot/lights on part of the switch was used to switch either the spot or fog light on. They never came on together, as the weather conditions suited for one, would mean that the other is of no use.

No, an AC switch will work the same, unless you want parking lights.

Switch shouldn't need changing if it has same number of positions, a switch is a switch after all. Another guide here to fitting.

with a bit of wire swapping inside the switch, on the last one I did, you could have either one of the lamps on, or both on at the same time.
of course you should use relays to switch the power to the switch, and think about upgrading your charging system if you want to actually use the lamps for more than 5 minutes at a time...

Standard filament bulbs are 48watt P36s BPF (British Pre-Focus) from this guy http://www.classic-spares-electrical.co ... ent&part=3

...or there are halogen alternatives which are 36watt available from Australia, but these are around £10-12 per bulb, depending on exchange rate and quantity.

yep, good call. got a lens from there after the bottom fell out of the box on some lamps i had to fit to a scooter. the lamps are exactly the same as the "kits" from dealers....
