depends on where you are riding, there are lots of lambrettas commuting in london, i used my ts1 powered series 1 and had no issues at all.

good nylon cables, stainless fastners with nylocks and always build with threadlock and you should be fine.

its what they were made for after all. add a disc brake though

however given a choice a suzuki bandit or a gts would be better

I suspect a PX is more hassle-free (I used one for years in London). But I also used a GP150 for several years as well and as long as it was looked after it was fine too on a daily 15-mile commute.

Currently I'm taking a bog-standard GP200 (iron barrel, 22mm carb) on a 70-mile round trip three times a week, including both A-roads and town traffic. Again, as long as you look after it and don't wang it (I cruise at 55-60mph and only occasionally go above 65mph), they're fine. Just make sure your engine has the right bearings, seals, crank etc, and check things like cables etc every week, you'll be fine.

spot on scooterslag. just want to jump on, spark it up and cruise home.
Cheers for the advice lads. I'm getting the vibe that I should stick with the Vepa :D for the commute and get a Lamby for riding at the weekend (when I'm not fixing it in the garage or on the side of the road.).
On a different subject, I was just browsing the LCGB sites advice on what prices to pay for different models and conditions of lamby.
Think it may need updating; have they seen the price of a decent Lambretta recently :o

I'd go along with that, my lad has a GP but needed to commute 25 miles a day, we bought an old T5 for the daily commute (which is also not bad from a fun point of view) and the GP is reserved for weekends or when/if the T5 breaks down.

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm

Agree with the above. Face facts you just wanna get to work & get home with no grief from the bike...thats why I bought a GTS, well the 630 mile round trip to Whitby & other northern hovels thru the year was another reason.
