Has Lambretta tuning really moved on over the past 20 years?

Anything related to Lambrettas... ask tech questions, post helpful info, or just read and learn.

i had a five speed gearbox in my 'royspeed' in the early seventies,i broke it! i now have a 'tino sacchi' one and daren't use it,if we had a very close ratio 5th gear to use as an overdrive i think this would be of great use to knock the revs down a bit !
i think it could be made at a resonable cost !what about it ian?

For a Five speed to work in a standard let alone a tuned Lambretta, I think it needs to follow the design changes made to the Cento/J range Three speed to make it into the Starstream/Vega four speed gearbox. Instead of thinner gears Innocenti made more space for the gear box and fitted another gear into the extra space, I don't think anyone's tried it yet on a LI SX GP range Yet, but when someone does I think it would perform better (stronger) than whats been available to date, IMO...

That's one way round it.

However, most superbikes run gears that are thinner than existing lambretta ones so it's a case of material choice and then correct hardening.

Yes I agree with your comment on material choice, there should be more of it and harder wearing, partly owing to the selector mechanism not being up to super bike standards, cant recall seeing the Lambretta Xmas tree gear cluster being copied by any WSB teams.

I know what your saying and im sure ive dealt with some of them but the likes of Saxelby and Webster were doing quality work from the start.
These old men as they are now were talking sense years ago.They come from an era when you just couldnt buy the quality parts we can so easily get off the shelf now so had to make s**t parts work better in their race bikes and they did.I remember picking up my 185 from Ralph years ago and he asked what carb i was running,i told him it was a solid mount phbh.He could of told me to replace it,sold me a new one or report me to the LCGB but gave me advise on float heights and float needle jets to allow for this and it worked.

haven't tried any kits that have come out in the last 10 years but the 80mph my ts1 pulls is plenty for me! always looking for more torque and better brakes but even my Italian 185 tv175 kit pulls some decent speed. the holy grail is more torque!
