Rapido 225 classic, asso / vertex piston make sure barrel is honed to correct clearance. Better results can be had with inlet and exhaust work but also good straight from shelf. advantages are: Good torquey set up that will if set up correctly pull tall gearing, reborable should there be any mishaps and and most importantly cheap.
got a rt220 with a 58mm crank, i'm jetting and running in and not been out as much as i would have liked, first impressions are with a 4.9 final drive ratio, plenty of power, and smooth , as i am running in i am holding back but it just wants to fly, but theres no need to rev it up to get it going, the initial fuel con. , looks reasonable.
a lot of cash but long term i think a good option, p155 easy to fit

there is also the rt230 now or rt240 if used with a 60mm crank. its my favourite of the bunch but at the moment i just dont have the ability to buy it myself.
on the lcgb there are some secret squirel kits being hinted at but realisticly these wont be bolted on to bikes untill next year at best so im dismissing them and saving as hard as my paper round will allow.
im still thinking the rt is the best option
if anyone goes for the muggy 225 then factor in a 60mm crank

I would love to say I could save up and buy a kit like the RT but its never gonna happen...
Years ago I looked at scoots with the magical numbers 240 on the side and have always wanted one, I'm still getting the bits together and its the only thing I'll be able to build on my budget, so far I've got.. AF race crank with 120mm, 18mm eyed rod, ebay, swapped for a 58mm race crank that cost me £50, TS250 +1mm o/s (genuine) piston kit, ebay, £35, Jet200 barrel, standard, ebay £5, TV/GT200 centre squish head, ebay, £20, Ive got a late spanish 150 case to adapt (£90?) or I may just stick it in a Jet200 engine I have, Thats approx £110 or £200 plus a rebore..
I think thats why we still fart around with these conversions (Mark at MDB asked why), they are cheap, provide a good set up and not so hard on the pocket IF they go bang. I cant get my head round the nonsense of a Jap piston not be up to the job?
So for me its an old school 240..
By the way I have a 200 engine, reamed to 26mm jetex, Ancillotti, pulling a 16/47, Jet200 gearbox.. I have no idea if thats a good set up but it works and is good fun to drive but still only 60ish..

I am having Mr Broadhurst build me a 27hp 23lb/ft torque RT255cc engine right now and its costing ££££££££££££££££
but i think if i started again a standard 200 would be my choice, perhaps with a little porting work even an over bore, longer stroke, and around we go again :bouncing:
:bouncing:
i have a brother with two kidneys anyone interested

27hp 23lb/ft torque RT255cc........what with that 16mm carb you are using
if on a budget then the indian barrel has got to be favourite, bore to 70mm and add a mec 60mm crank and 24mm mikuni and clubman or 2nd hand expansion and you have a 16 bhp scooter out of stuff that folk throw away.
i bet we still do 60mph on the way to spain on our fools-gold-mobils, we ll tell everybody we did 90 all the way but the reality is that terry on a tv200 is your speed limit. fortunately your rt pulls from 3k as thats what you ll be revving at on the motorway :baddevil: im glad we leave in may.

got an engine waiting for me to deicde on a top end, 60mm mec crank and 24mm mikuni (will have to sort the connection to the inlet amnifold coz it wont stay on securely)
want a long distance tourer
was thinking ts1 (with the 24 mikuni????)
or rapido classic (heard horrendous stories though)
cheap ali steel lined kit but wonder if the transfers will need such "cleaning up" that they would end up on the large side
hear the good stories about the rt but the price makes me shiver
insist on a filet under the panels as well
am watching this thread and wondering which way to go

i doubt anyones tried that, mainly cos a std silencer would not fit........
however, should you be able to cobble one on to try ,we,d be very interested to see the results.....
