running without oil

Not supposed to tell this but....
I restored an SX for someone in about 97/98. Lovelly scoot, all redone. They took it, drove it around for a while. I got a calll asking about trans. oil Where was it was the question. I had forgotten to put it in. Scoot came back, I pulled the trans. and could see no damage. I do load 'em up with oil when building, so that may have saved the day.
Bottom line is we all make mistakes. The shop you bought it form may have not put oil in it because they assumed you would. I know I would check oil levels on a motor I just bought. Not trying to be defensive/condasending to any one, just saying.
But still, take it back if your worried, I would.

update:
had a really good look at it and it appears to be the driveside oilseal has gone and sucked the oil from the engine

cant figure out why there wasnt horrendous amounts of white smoke bellowing from the scoot as the last time one went on me in the 90s you couldnt see the car behind

Have you been on touch with the builder, before you completely strip it and he says it's not his fault, after all he should be checking it, not you.

i agree,you should take it back and let the builder inspect it,i would.even if you are competent with a spanner its your hard earned and his reputation at stake,if the builder is a good one he will more than likely repair it as a gesture of goodwill as to not taint his reputation.
the last thing any scoot shop/engine builder wants is for an unhappy customer slagging them off to all their mates,after all,this is a big scene and we all choose our shops/suppliers carefully and off the back of other peoples recommendations.

Myself and J1MS both know a bloke who after a full rebuild took his track bike for a test run with no oil in the gear box. This test run was half a dozen full speed 1/2 mile runs. As far as I can recall the engine was ok for a few meetings,
