tubed tyre sealant advice?

Anything related to Lambrettas... ask tech questions, post helpful info, or just read and learn.

i'm running tubed tyres, does anyone recommend any of the sealants on the market to seal a puncture, ie slime etc...I understand they aren't as affective on tubed tyres as tubeless.
Which is the best product out here?
is there any problems with wheel balance at higher speeds?

There are several types/names on the market. Just look up a couple of dealers and you should find it or you can get it off e bay. Make sure its not the type for bicycle tyres. Oh, you can also get it from motorcycles shops. Yes, it is worth putting in as it should deflate slower in a tubed tyre with the sealant, rather than a very rapid deflation without, which hopefully will give you time to come under a controlled stop. It doesn't affect the wheel balance.

First thing make sure you fit good quality inner tubes, the michelin quality type brands will be made of rubber , the lesser and cheaper brands will be made of butol ( poor spelling) the big difference between the two is the way they react when punctured the rubber will puncture and the tyre will normally deflate at a reasonable rate , the butol tube will have a tendency to split from ear to ear deflating almost instantly. In the better tube IMOP the sealant could well help maybe even seal a puncture. Also the sealant should remain fluid so wheel balance should not be compremised .

also make sure you run the correct offset tubes if on a lambretta

How would you know? If you've had a puncture and the sealant has done it's job... :?

I use Ultraseal in my tubes.
a bit more expensive than some brands, but had the best reviews when I was looking into this, which was a few years ago.
and as a bonus, I used some to seal a slow puncture on my van

A biker m8 of mine got home from a long ride on his modern 850 Triumph and when cleaning the bike noticed 3 little green blobs on his front Tyre when he tried to pull them of it turned out to be the green slime had saved him from a poss fatal crash as he had been doing 120mph at times chasing a mate on a fireblade
when he checked his pressure it was only down by 2 psi
im going to get some asap 8-)

Ive got to agree with this, that its just a temporary measure that stops the tyre going down if you happen to ride over something sharp...

The best way might be, To not use any sealant at all, then when you ride over something sharp that deflates your front tyre you will know instantly that you now have a flat tyre, as your now useing your chin against the Tarmac as a body brake, and the freshly painted foot boards & side panels to help stop your scooter as it slides sideways down the road into oncoming traffic... ;)

I too have to agree, I don't use slime, instead I find a good pair of flat soled boots come in very handy if you have a puncture at speed. :ninja:
