Why a STRONG spring? Are there some weak ones out there (I wouldn't be surprised)?

I ask because most issues with droopy stand have little to do with the spring, but a lot to do with wear in the stand components. The stands get bent, the U clamps wear badly and rarely get greased, but the worst problem is usually on the frame cross-member that the stand is fixed to. This is usually bad on Italian machines, as "stand-abuse" can result in the fixing bolts for the U clamps pulling through the steel of the cross-member. The usual solution is a thick rectangular washer on the inside of the cross member and some new bolts. Serveta did this as standard on many frames. Innocenti were too mean to do it as standard.

OK, so your frame and stand might be in perfect nick, but others might be reading this and this might help them rectify similar problems.

There are two different length springs, you may have the long one. Just a thought.
