side panel repair

I have the usual 2 samll splits on the bottom of my GP panel, an am going to weld them up. Has anyone any advice, pictures how to strengthen the panel so it wont happen again

is it on the corner where it drops down after the running boards ?
weld a ¬ piece of rod in there

do you mean on both sides of the bit that drops down or just one side, where is the weak point, as there are 2 splits.
