I've got one of these on my TM 24, available with a 45mm carb opening and a big bellows to match and fits under a GP panel, can't tell if it will fit within your tank cutout but it will be close, will measure tommorow if your interested.

I've ordered a ram-air filter from Beedspeed that has a diameter of 43mm which will fit with a little encouragement. I'll try twisting it to see if that helps. The breath sweet looks pretty good though
I've got it running with no filter at the moment but since the whole philosophy behind the engine was a reliable long distance tourer, it sort of goes against the grain of the build.
Cue a completely irrelevant and gratuitous dyno graph....

24mm carb on a 240.........
thats well restricted already so i suppose further restrictions from air filters wont really matter much anyways..........

Remote K&N mounted to rear dog leg (TM28):

Have you thought about changing to a 30mm and using a MB type Ram air. I've heard of great results from large cc engines with smaller carbs!
Graphs look smart, have you got a 3rd gear run? bet it could pull your mate and his nan in a landrover!

looking at the graph, where the power tails off where bhp is written in pen is this where the engine runs out of carb?sean brady scooters wrote:24mm carb on a 240.........![]()

what would you expect to see on the graph from say a 30mm? i run the same carb on a 230, the are nice and crisp for round town.

JB did lecture me on how the carb was strangling it but that's all I had at the time. It'll need re-dynoing once its run-in a bit and so a new carb will probably be on the cards (more bl00dy expense!)cezeta wrote:looking at the graph, where the power tails off where bhp is written in pen is this where the engine runs out of carb?sean brady scooters wrote:24mm carb on a 240.........![]()

from what you say ,i presume it is your priority to have good running around town, and the percieved feeling of torque and good responce at relativly low speeds...
if this works for you then thats good....
but if i were say asked to improve the higher speed/ power of this machine ,i would firstly advise the use of a bigger carb.....possibly a 30mm,
the 30 would offer a very good overall compromise as regards low/higher speeds and gains in power/torque figures.
32/34 would give a bias towards overall higher touring speeds
and with say 35/36 ,38 ....then you are into race specs...
As i say, such a lot depends on the use you(the rider) wants to put it to.....
For some one who say only rides around a town most of the time,at relativly low revs then a 240 cc motor on a 24mm carb will "feel" well strong.
its just that on the open road at higher speeds it will always be behind other 240,s utilising bigger/less restrictive carbs etc...

High torque touring was the brief and it delivers that in spades. At least I think it does, I've probably done about half a mile so far!
