Yes, early Series 2 Grills look like standard Series 1 items but - of course - are not identical. Like you already found out.
Problem is now to source a correct on since I don't think it´s possible to spot this on a picture.
However I will return to the shed tomorrow to see if I be able to make a picture one next to the other and if it´s possible to see the difference in shape.

Me again, back from the laboratory!
I think it´s possible to spot the difference in the picture, this is the correct S1 item:

It looks slightly longer in general, the longest ´oval´ measures 7cm quite exactly.
Hope this will help to find the correct one!

Innocenti-71, Thank you so much for all the photos.
I guess the hunt for a series 1 grille starts now. I dont like my chances of finding one for a reasonable price though....... I noticed that Casa USA list the S1 & S2 grilles seperately but give them both the same innocenti part #, your measurement will guarantee that I get the right one.

Cheers

GOOD LUCK!

This one looks quite right on the photo:

If you still need one maybe ask the seller about the "7cm" detail.

The flat part of my battery tray is still in place. I thought it looked like it should come off when i yanked on it so I thought it was welded on. I got the frame powdercoated so the flat part of the battery tray is probably just stuck down with powdercoat.

Thank you so much for all your help, getting the tank in means I can get on with the rest of the assembly now.

While I'm on a roll, any chance you know why my horncast grille doesn't fit?
the horncast is completely straight and I bought the grille new off ebay a couple of years back. I read somewhere that some early series 2 horncasts had the round grille as well, is it possible that the shape of the round grille is slightly different between series 1 & 2??

Where abouts in NZ are you?

Re the horn grill, I bought a remade grill for mine, which fitted exactly the same as yours! the curve was all wrong, and it was short on two axis!

I ended up buying a new old stock one on ebay from a guy in Thailand! I paid 45 us dollars for it but its perfect!

Thanks for the link to the e-bay auction, I'll keep my eye on it and hopefully it wont end up going for crazy money. I've just realised that scooterrestorations has got the S1 type for just under 17 pounds so I might just end up getting one from them.

Dryballs, I'm in ChCh. Are you the same dryballs that pops up on 2snz occasionally?

Chuurrrr
