Under-the-kickstart Frescos are not exactly great on ground clearance. Mine was squashed flat in no time at all.

the old school fresco pipes are actually extremley good ,if used on appropiate set ups..
i always favoured the OTT ones ....better looks and ground clearence.
i used to convert many of these to a rubber mounted set up using the mini exhaust mountings....this helped stop the vibrations and cracking probs.
and yes the silencer could be easily re packed when needed due to the circlip design..
I ,m sure that there were different sized bores on" U" pipes available to suit the engine size
one of the best ones that i had was on a tuned 175,...and the main reason that it worked so well i think was due to its unique" U" pipe that was tapered from half way around ....
the ones for say 200,s just had a "U" pipe of about 42mm/44mm that was the same bore from exhaust to main chamber..
