hello all this is the message i posted the other day just to refresh the subject

hello all i have just finished a rebuild on my ts1 and cannot start it for love nor money . now i have good healthy spark and petrol getting everywhere it needs to get to. done all the usuals cleaned carb changed plugs etc but there is a couple of things playing on my mind. firstly i changed the reeds from metal to two stage ones but i cant see that being the issue? and also the scooter had the same fuel from about 1 year ago so i emptied that out and put fresh in but dont know wether the tank is contaminated. i really dont understand it normally there is something amiss and it can be rectified but im out of ideas so PLEASE HELP!.

now where i am at now is i stripped the top end and checked that the piston was the correct way round and have also replaced the reeds for the original ones that were in it so in effect have returned it to how it ran for 6 years before it detonated the piston due to pinking. the piston is a wiseco piston and it has a packing plate on the base of the barrell (no base gasket) and it has all gone back to exactly how it was i just cant understand how i can have spark fuel etc and it still will only very occasionally backfire and thats it!

If everything is correct mechanically then that just leaves electrics. Sometimes the spark packs up under "real" conditions. See if you can borrow a regulator and coil etc from a mate and swap them over. Its an easy thing to test first. Then try the stator and flywheel. I assume you've checked the really obvious stuff like the choke not working

try pulling the green wire that goes to the head set this will eliminate a dodgy ign switch ..........also take plug out and heat up the end with a blow torch carefully make sure the fuel is turned off so as not to flood refite the warm plug then a small capfull of fuel straight down the carb throttle closed and kick as many times as is needed of if theres 2 of u give it a bumpstart is worth cleaning the carb out and draining of old fuel an using some new as well
