Rear Hubs

Do the FA Italia rear hubs only come with press in studs or do they come with screw in ones too? Do the MBD hubs come with a MBD stamp on them? Concerned as just received a new hub with screw in studs, and it has had a stamp ground off the inside. Sposed to be MBD, and would have thought it would be stamped.

i dont think MBD have them made for themselfs im sure they just buy "UNI" ones the shop you bought it from should be the first port of call if your not sure , something ground of isnt very profesional though and i would at least question it perhaps by email and then all parties can have a record

Just done that Steve, and threatened with Trading Standards if it's an FA Italia one. It definitely has the left handed screw in studs though. Deffo brand new and is stamped 19 54 5140. Will check the cone sits down into hub correctly, as this was one of the other faults, I understand, with the cone sitting too proud.

Just had reply from dealer saying if I have any doubt, then to contact MBD and he gave their number too, so think he's honest Injun.

I bought one of my rear hubs direct from MB and it had somthing ground off the inside leaving a rectangle like the ramp ones, having said that its round, unlike the ramp ones ive had, ive stood behind it when on a dyno and its as true as it could be, been on a couple of years now without issue, unlike a italian one i bought from elsewere.

If I see something ground off a hub my immediate suspicion is that it used to say "RAMP"

I think a simple statement from MB would put people's minds at rest.

I know what your saying, but as long as its sound and true iam not troubled by what it says or doesnt say on the inside of the hub, i think most of the trouble with the ramp ones is there out of true, the hub i got from MB is fine . i once had a bike dyno,d with a ramp hub on and it was frightning to stand behind, it had to be seen to be belived, , yet i couldnt feel it on the road ,took it off as soon as i got home.

Uni ones should have 19 54 5140 stamped inside with a UNI embossed stamp inside. FA Italia ones have 19-54-5120 stamped on, underneath that is FA 2 and underneath that P. 1223 and also had the Innocenti logo on it. SIL ones have 19.54.5120 and also a SIL "S" stamp. Uni ones are painted silver on the outside, FA and SIL are not painted. Casting and maching on UNI is superior to the FA which is superior to the SIL.

Rear hubs have been a big problem for years.

The FA Italia hubs are crap, apart from the studs which were made of monkey metal, which we addressed both screw in and press in types and have them as spares. After that the drum bands will crack and break up and finally the hubs crack in pieces.

We stopped selling FA Italia hubs a few years ago.

SIL for many years have been slated, to be honest we found them to be excellent. Eibargum will have had an Indian hub from us two years ago, the problem now is we haven't had supplies from SIL for ages, so age old problem there but not with quality problems.

As for RAMP, we had them and they were beyond crap! There was nothing right with them, as soon as we found out we stopped selling them. RAMP have sent new samples for our inspection and are still CRAP!

This year UNI Auto launched their hub, which up to now are very very good and come from various sources some of which grind off the UNI
stamp.

UNI hubs are all MBD supply at the moment, but I do believe more SIL hubs are on the way.

Ian, it was about 2 years ago when i bought the hub, i will have the reciept but cant be arsed to look TBH, i never asked for any perticuler make of hub of you, i just bought the hub, fitted it and TBH its the best ive had. When i bought the italian hub from elsewere [not MB] the studs were crap, i stripped one on fitting , if i wanted another i,d go to MB as i,am happy with the one i bought , its on my RB, it wouldnt be if i didnt trust it.
