I know I should be ashamed to ask this butit's a long time since I had points on a Lammy:
Engine runs fine until main lights are switched on then stutters to a halt. Switching back to side lights everything runs fine again................
Weak flywheel magnets?
Lighting coils suspect?

Or possibly something completely different......................?

Plug gap
Points gap
Faulty ignition coil
Poor engine to frame earth
Short in main light circuit
And I'm sure there are many others.

the recommended plug gaps are
0.020-0.024 in for early 4 pole points and electronic ignitions.
0.018-0.020 in for 6 pole points.
0.016 in for indian points models.

points gap 0.014-0.018 in.

Don't forget that timing on the ferrite magnet flywheel needs to more accurate than the Italian
system. The precise details for this are given in the Home Workshop Manual.
