i had to cut a stainless headcowl the other day to fit a ts1. f@@ker to cut so i used molegrips to snap bits off untill it was the right shape then used a grinder to finish it off.

compared to mild steel stainless is more brittle and will snap if stressed much passed 90 degrees. there are differant grades containing more iron that are better but these tend to need to be oiled to keep them from discolouring. lifts for example use this and that why the brazilian cleaner wipes them down with baby oil each morning.

bike wheels using stainless are very thick and have a number of radioused flanges to keep the strength in them. they are usualy spoked too so the weight is distributed more evenly.

i like scoot rs rims, i have bought another set just now and with better quality valves they are great, i would love shiney stainless ones but not after the scaremongering and definatly not with "show use only"

i cant think of any other meaning for "show use only"

"show use only", if only i had spotted that one or been advised they are for that then i would have opted for Scootrs V2 ordinary as to me logically, it seems to make sense that tubeless is the safer option as split rims in the motortrade were given up ages ago, werent they?

Randall, if you are reading this which I am sure you will, I dont seem to ever get a response to this question and i am not trying to put you on the spot (pm me if you like), this is an imortant issue to me, this isnt a way of trying get one over or anything, i just wondered, because when I bought these from you, after already buying the V1 and the safety bead issue meant i had to change them, I was under the impression they were for road use, with "show use only" no matter what happens this isnt going to go down too well with a UK insurance company. So in effect I have a set of lovely looking but unable to use SS wheels with nice tyres too you put on, making now 4 redundent if including the V1 without the bead - buying another tubeless set seems highly unfair on my already thin wallet.

So is there a reason why whoever decided to put this on, is it because they are only for show use? Sorry to harp on about this but a) its my life and b) I dont want to change them if i dont need to as your statistics say nobody has had one crack. This is a hard one being a psychology and statistics lecturer as it cannot be gauged without getting feedback from a large proportion of your customers who have used them for so many hrs on roads with/without pillion, have cracks been reported under specific weight and so on.. you would only hear if someone told you. There could be ppl who have had these crack and just thought "well, my fault, shouldnt have gone for SS". Hindsight to me is a lot cheaper than the price i paid for the rims, so I would like to make an informed decision, is it the front or back that would be under more stress - the back logic tells me?

Randall, please can I have a response, I know Bristolmod is more popular, :D than me but am I the only one who sees this marking as a problem?

I don't really understand what you're asking, sorry, but the product page explains all these issues in detail. Please see there.

Randall;

1) are stainless rims safe or not? Yes/No
2) are stainless rims prone to cracking? Yes/ No
2) are stainless rims marked "for show use only" safe to use on the road? Yes/No

Please don't refer me to somewhere else, but please answer if possible- thanks

I don't think they were difficult questions in the first place, but can I answer with my own opinion on this?

1) No, that's why it says on the rim "for
show use only"
2) Yes, that's why it says on the rim "for
show use only"
3) No, that's why it says on the rim "for
show use only" and your insurance company won't like it either. Just the fact that it says that on the wheel is enough to void your insurance and god forbid there was an accident (due to rim failure or otherwise) and someone else was involved.

a) If you want a simplistic one word answer if they are safe, then, given we've never seen a problem as we posted: "yes."

b) If you want a subtle, in depth answer, then take 2 minutes and read the product page. Not like you have to get out of your chair to read it :D
