About 5 years’ ago I bought an Indian SIL GP150 (1979 model). When I first bought it, the then owner, who had just imported it, was able to start it by putting one hand over the (perished) rubber air intake boot attached to the carburettor, whilst simultaneously kick-starting it. It ran quite well at the time.

When I got home, I managed to start it over the next few days but since then, with time, it has not started. It does kick over but still refuses to start. I installed a new tank, fuel lines and filter and also cleaned the spark plug, but I still without success. I have also renewed a lot of rubber components (including the air intake boot) but for about 5 years the scooter has been in my garage and they are perished again and need replacing.

I was told when I bought it that the engine was reconditioned in India (I don’t have any proof of this!) and it was re-sprayed in white (Not very well, and it was coated in grease to be shipped to England, which has resulted in the paint being stained anyway). It is not yet registered or MOT’d and hence does not have any registration plate.

I really would like get the scooter back on the road. I know I need help on this and, rather than just take it in to someone who might be able to do the work, I thought I might find an experienced enthusiast from Harrogate who would like to help me, and at the same time let me learn from the experience.

I'll PM you the number of an old Chiselspeed mechanic if you still need help...he does his own work now and lives in Harrogate. His rates are pretty good.

If you need any GP bits give me a shout, I have a fair bit so might be able to help you out.

Cheers Stu
