To Augusto or not to augusto.....

Decided to take the plunge and get a augusto or simailr retard unit for my RB. Question is whats the best one on the market?

Looks as though there are 3 options, the augusto for which you have 3 choices, the chiselspeed which you can set how you want or a new italian one which i cant remeber the name of :( which i think does the same thing as the other 2. If anyone can put a name to it that would be a good start... :D

anyway i want to know what people think, which is cheapest, what results have people found, good or bad? How do they fit, do they come with a fixing kit, best place to fit the and so on. Im not really bothered about the possibility of it failing and the egine going bang which i know has been covered on other threads as you always take that risk with a tuned scoot.
I will probably base my choice on what feedback i get from pepole on here who have actually fitted one of the 3 on there scoots.

This allegedly does more than just retard the ignition proportional to rpm. It actually has selectable curves. What that means in practice I have no idea.

my only thoughts on the adjustable one is that the adjuster is a moving part and is more likely to fail than a sealed unit. or there may be a chance to adjust it accidently or vibration ??

my vote is for the augusto just for the simplicity of it, lets face it you are not going to move it from bike to bike so why adjust it.

Cez, my thinking as well at the mo, thanks for the link armand....Doesnt look as though that many people have got round to fitting them which is a bit of a surprise as its meant to make a big diff on fuel and ease of running at low reves for what isnt an awful ot of money... :?

everyone i know that uses one has gone for the augusto inc me, i let replay fit it for me and dyno it for the all inclusive price of £100

Fitted agusto to my RB low down power better, cant say ive noticed any diffrence in the fuel consumption like they claim. Just follow the fitting instructions that come with it pretty simple.

Nice one lads... so plug and play so to speak. will need it as smooth as i can get if for the euro in spain as its lookinlike we are going to end up doing some miles.... :lol:

you need to re set the timing so that at high revs you are at 18 degrees or whatever you currently run and then at lower revs you should see it at 20 odd degrees moving to 18 as you rev it.

otherwise its a case of mounting it and plugging it in

The chisel one comes into its own because of its adjustability. All these motors of ours are different and to get the best out of them may need varying levels of advance and retard. This is all relative to the tune/pipe etc. Everything affects the ignition. So you may find one motor likes say 20 degrees off pipe but only 12 on and maybe 10 to get over rev. So with an adjustable unit (albeit fairly limited adjustabilty) you maybe able to find the ideal setup.

i just think for a road going scooter they will be full of muck after a few rides, it could do with an enclosure if thats what is chosen.

most folk dont even know what they are though so letting joe public mess about with ignition is not always going to be the best choice for everybody.

tony, by the way. i spoke to cam cote.....they do a satin black coting that disburses 20% extra heat......just bringing up an old topic for a moment :ugeek:
